Actor and producer Seth Rogen have announced that his animated film ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which he is producing, will premiere on August 11, 2023.
This was announced by Seth Rogen who co-produced the film, in a post on his official Twitter account.
Rogen said the film will be an adult animation aimed at teenagers and children. Reporting from Deadline, this reboot film is directed by Nickelodeon and Point Gray Pictures, directed by Jeff Rowe. While Evan Goldberg and James Weaver will serve as producers of the film. Brendan O’Brien will write the screenplay, and Paramount will handle global distribution for the film.
The film will also be unusual because it will be animated, unlike Michael Bay’s 2014 film adaptation or even the 1990s production. As we know, previously the two newest feature films from this franchise produced by Michael Bay were present in live-action form.
The first film appeared in 2014 with the title ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The film proved to be a huge success, grossing $485 million worldwide. Its sequel, ‘Out of the Shadows, was released in 2016 but failed to match the success of its predecessor.
Now that Rogen has taken control, the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” story promises to go in a new direction. Unfortunately, until now there has not been much information about the storyline and the cast.
It seems we still have to wait some more time to get more information about the filming of the upcoming ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot.
To date, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise has grossed $1.15 billion across six films from three studios since 1990. His last two films were released by Paramount and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, which aired in 2014 and 2016 with a total of $730.6 million.
The new reboot is based on the comic book by Kevin Eastman-Peter Laird in 1984. The series centers on Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael, four turtles who mutate, gaining human-like abilities.
Their teacher and leader is a mutant mouse named Splinter, teaching them the ways of martial arts. They then fight crime in and around New York City. The animated series “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” debuted in 1987 and later gave the franchise more popularity.
In Indonesia, the 80s and 2003 versions of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” first aired on Indosiar in 2004, and the Nickelodeon version aired on Global TV (GTV) in 2014. The film itself has also been broadcast by Trans TV in 2017 and 2019.
Rogen uploaded the image that became the release date announcement on his Twitter account. It looked like a piece of paper from Leonardo’s notebook that had been covered with class notes, folded, and stuffed into an untidy backpack.
Rogen also included a short caption, which reads ‘Leo takes notes like he used to’. Although the most interesting part of the post is the confirmation of the release date.
While August 2023 still seems a long way off, it might be nice for the franchise to take a break before heading back to theaters.
In terms of comics, it looks like there will be plenty of new story material and never-ending adventures, for those turtle heroes.
With the release date still long, we may have to wait a while before seeing any trailers or other information. Still, this is great news for fans of the four nimble turtles.
