Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw insists his team is ready for the Europa League final against Villarreal in Porto on Thursday (27/5/2021) and does not need an inspiring speech from legend, Sir Alex Ferguson.
The former Manchester United manager was part of the team to Gdansk, Poland.
“I do not expect him to talk to us,” Shaw was quoted as saying by Tribal Football, Wednesday (26/5/2021).
However, Shaw did not rule out the influence of Ferguson’s figure at Manchester United. However, whether Ferguson is there or not, Manchester United must be motivated to win the match.
“We see it around the hotel at the moment, but within the team, we have to inspire ourselves and focus on what we need to do as a team,” he stressed.
“I’m sure we don’t need people to inspire in the match. In the team, we need to do that ourselves,” he continued.
“Of course I’m sitting next to the manager now and I’m sure he will do it tomorrow so I’m not sure we will meet with Sir Alex,” he said.
Alex Ferguson did not ‘let go’ Manchester United after retiring in 2013. He, who serves as the club’s ambassador, often watches important matches for MU.
The most anticipated Europa League final will take place at 02.00 WIB.
Villarreal has never won the UEFA major competition. Meanwhile, Manchester United owns three European Cup / Champions League and 2016/17 Europa League titles with coach Jose Mourinho.
However, Villarreal coach, Unai Emery, has won the Europa League three times. The former Arsenal coach even won three consecutive editions with Sevilla, namely in 2013/14, 2014/15, and 2015/16.
Statistically, Manchester United does have a higher quality squad. A series of players also have star status. Even so, it was not a guarantee that they would win.

Manchester United fans beat ahead of the Europa League final, allegedly by supporters of Lechia Gdansk
A group of Manchester United supporters suffered an unfortunate fate after they were beaten and robbed by a group of people in Gdansk, Poland, ahead of the 2020/2021 Europa League final.
About two thousand Manchester United supporters reportedly flew to Gdansk. They certainly want to directly support the Red Devils’ struggle against Villarreal.
Arriving in Gdansk, many of the supporters hang out at several bars located around the town square. It was at this time that they had a barbaric attack.
The attack was said to have been carried out by residents. They attacked for no apparent reason and then took several valuables that were brought by MU fans.
This moment was caught on camera and uploaded to social media. In the video posted on the @footbreak_yt account, a group of people dressed all in black are running and shouting chants outside a bar.
Then it appears the tables in the bar are falling apart. Meanwhile, many bottles and glasses were broken.
The account also states that the alleged perpetrator of the attack was a group of supporters from the Lechia Gdansk club. Check out the video below:
Three Manchester United Fans Wounded
It was not immediately clear how many supporters were injured as a result of the attack. But BBC reporter Simon Stone said three Manchester United supporters were injured.
He also said that Manchester United was aware of this problem. They dispatched their staff to help the fans take care of their belongings that were seized by the attackers.
But he also emphasized that the attack had nothing to do with Villarreal supporters.
Club staff was helping those whose items were stolen. Not aware of any problems involving Utd / Villarreal fans and the atmosphere, in general, was good.”
Meanwhile, Man United itself has also released an official statement regarding the attack incident.
This is the first time Manchester United fans have made an away trip since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out. Besides that, reportedly around a thousand fans will also arrive in Gdansk on Wednesday (26/05/2021).
