English League: Oops, the engine of the Italian national team’s midfield at Euro 2020 flatly rejects Arsenal’s proposal

The Sassuolo midfielder who shone with the Italian national team at the Euro 2020 stage, Manuel Locatelli reportedly turned down the opportunity to move to Arsenal this summer.

The Gunners are in the transfer market to strengthen their midfield following the departures of Dani Ceballos, who has returned to his original club Real Madrid, as well as Matteo Guendouzi, who has joined Marseille on a season-long loan.

The remaining midfielders Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira were also welcome to leave. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has identified Locatelli as one of his main targets.

However, Goal reports that Locatelli is not interested in joining Arsenal and may prefer a move to Serie A giants Juventus who also want him.

Locatelli, whose contract expires in June 2023, is believed to be worth around £34m. Although the price is relatively cheap, Arsenal is still persuading Sassuolo to want to lower the price of Manuel Locatelli.

The midfielder was a standout performer for the Azzurri at Euro 2020. At club level he made 34 Serie A appearances for Sassuolo during the 2020-2021 season, scoring four goals and providing three assists.

Good Relationship with Juventus
The 23-year-old emerged from AC Milan’s youth team before joining Sassuolo, initially on loan before moving on permanently.

Juventus is the only Italian club we spoke to about Locatelli. We met last week with (Juventus sporting director Federico) Cherubini,” said Sassuolo’s sports director, Giovanni Carnevali, Thursday (1/7/2021) to Sky Italia, as quoted by Football Italia.

“There is interest from their side, we have not explored all the terms and evaluations. However, we have a very good relationship with Juventus, so we will continue these talks,” added Carnaval.

Premier League: Arsenal Have Offered Manuel Locatelli

Arsenal is starting to move quickly in the player transfer market. The Gunners have made a concrete offer to sign Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli.

The news was conveyed by the Director of Sports of Sassuolo, Giovanni Carnevali, Thursday (1/7/2021). He called Arsenal in pole position in the hunt for Manuel Locatelli.

Currently, Locatelli is still playing with the Italian national team at Euro 2020. He helped Gli Azzurri reach the quarter-finals to face the Belgian national team, Saturday (3/7/2021) early morning WIB.

“Juventus are the only Italian club we spoke to about Locatelli. We met last week with (Juventus sporting director Federico) Cherubini,” Carnevali told Sky Italia, as quoted by Football Italia.

“There is interest on their part, we haven’t explored all the requirements and evaluations. However, we have a very good relationship with Juventus, so we will continue these talks.”

Arsenal Build Squad

“Other clubs from abroad are indeed interested, Arsenal is one of them. They are at the forefront of having submitted an important proposal to us. Until now they are the only club that has made a concrete offer,” said Carnevali.

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, wants to rebuild the squad to be more competitive next season. A major overhaul had to be done because last season only finished in the eighth position and failed to qualify for European competition.

The Gunners have also been linked with Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares and Anderlecht’s Sambi Lokonga.
