Karim Benzema breathed a sigh of relief. The knee injury that smothered him is improving ahead of appearing in the 2020 European Cup. The Real Madrid striker is ready to train again in the next two days with the French national team.
Benzema suffered an injury when Les Bleus – the nickname of the French national team – played a test match against Bulgaria on Wednesday (6/6/2021 in the early hours of WIT). There had been concerns that the former Olympique Lyon player would not be able to appear in the 2020 European Cup.
However, Benzema fans received good news because the knee injury suffered was not so serious. In fact, according to a report by French sports journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi on his Twitter account, Benzema can return to training in the next two days.
Benzema is currently unable to join training with the French national team. However, it is reported that the previously stiff muscle in his knee has contracted and the pain has lessened.
“Don’t worry about KB9! Karim #Benzema muscle deflated that night and the pain lessened. However, the #Real star is not scheduled to train this Wednesday. He will continue his training path within a maximum of 48 to 72 hours,” wrote Mohamed Bouhafsi on Thursday (10/6/2021).
As is known, Benzema had to be stretchered off the field in the 41st minute in the match which took place at the Stade de France, Paris. He winced in pain after a duel with Bulgaria defender Ivan Turitsov.
Finally, Benzema’s role was replaced by Olivier Giroud who scored two goals in this match. The French national team closed the match with a 3-0 victory.
The condition of the 33-year-old player was noticed by the coach Didier Deschamps to still be able to appear at the 2020 European Cup. Therefore, his recovery is very important.
At this time our medical staff will continue to accompany him,” said Deschamps after the game.
We are confident we will do this right,” continued Deschamps.
“This situation is detrimental for us. But I can confirm there is nothing too serious to worry about at this time,” he concluded.
The French national team will start their journey at Euro 2020 by joining Group F with Portugal, Germany, and Hungary. Their first match will be against the big German teams on June 16, 2021.
