Money is not the reason Messi hasn’t extended his contract at Barcelona

Barcelona president Joan Laporta says Lionel Messi’s contract negotiations are going well. La Pulga has not extended his contract not because of money problems.
Lionel Messi’s contract at Barcelona expires at the end of this month. The Blaugrana are now in a race against time to try to keep the Argentine star.

The Barcelona camp has offered Messi a new contract. Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, has also met with Messi’s agent and father, Jorge Messi

Laporta revealed that the negotiation process for Messi’s new contract was going well. However, the two parties have not yet reached an agreement.

“We are in talks with Leo’s representatives,” Laporta said during the introduction of new Barcelona defender Eric Garcia.

We agreed a new contract with Leo. It’s going well, but it’s not finished yet.”

Laporta also denied Messi has not extended his contract at Barcelona because of money issues. Previously, it was rumored that Barcelona’s move to secure La Pulga was disrupted by the financial crisis they were facing. They are said to still have to wait for the results of the financial audit.

The 58-year-old confirmed that Messi’s contract extension was not affected by the audit results. Messi revealed that Laporta already knows Barcelona’s financial condition and still wants to stay at Camp Nou.

“We more or less know the results for this year. The audit, when we finish it in July, will give us more data. However, regarding this agreement, we have made decisions and strategies,” Laporta added.

He shows a lot of understanding, and it’s not about money.”

“He wants to continue the process and wants to have a competitive team to win the Champions League and the league title. There is no signing that we have made in connection with these negotiations. We know that Leo wants to stay, but he has other offers.”
