AS Roma has named a replacement coach for Paulo Fonseca next season. It was Jose Mourinho who was given the trust of the Giallorossi.
Roma has decided not to renew Fonseca’s contract. The two parties will part ways at the end of this season.
The club immediately announced Mourinho as a replacement for Fonseca next season. Mourinho is under contract until 30 June 2024.
“We are very happy and welcome Jose Mourinho into the AS Roma family,” said Roma President Dan Friedkin and vice president Ryan Friedkin, quoted from the club’s official website.
“A great champion who has won trophies at every level, Jose will provide extraordinary leadership and experience for our ambitious project.”
“The appointment of Jose is a major step in building a culture of long-term and consistent victory throughout the club,” he stressed.
The Italian league is no stranger to Mourinho. He had great success during two seasons managing Inter Milan.
“Thank you to the Friedkin family for choosing me to lead this great club and to be part of their vision,” said Mourinho.
“After meeting the owner and Tiago Pinto, I immediately fully understood their ambition for AS Roma. It is the same ambition and drive that has always motivated me and together we want to build on a winning project in the years to come.”
“The extraordinary enthusiasm of the Roma fans convinced me to accept the job and I can’t wait to start next season. Meanwhile, I wish Paulo Fonseca all the best,” he said.
