Raheem Sterling: Manchester City Will Avenge Defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League Final

Raheem Sterling admitted that Manchester City was frustrated because they failed to ensure the 2020/2021 Premier League title at home to Chelsea, Saturday (8/5/2021). However, he has ambitions to avenge the defeat in the Champions League final.

Manchester City missed their first chance to seal the Premier League crown against Chelsea. Winning first, Pep Guardiola’s men conceded twice and had to give up 1-2.

“We are actually in a good position. It was a day to finish it (the Premier League), but unfortunately, we couldn’t. We had a chance to finish the game with a win (through Sergio Aguero’s penalty), but we didn’t and were punished for it,” said Sterling.

“It’s frustrating, but we still have three games left and hopefully we’ll get it right in the next few weeks.”

The two teams will meet again in the Champions League final in three weeks, but, after manager Pep Guardiola made nine changes, it didn’t help much. Raheem Sterling emphasized that the match will be very different and he is determined to avenge the defeat.

“The Champions League final will be a completely different game and I am sure we will avenge the defeat in the game,” Sterling said.

Aguero Apologizes

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero apologized for failing to execute a penalty kick against Chelsea in Week 35 of the 2020/2021 Premier League. Aguero admits that he regrets making the wrong decision.

In the match that took place at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City took the lead through Raheem Sterling’s action in the 44th minute. Manchester City is then awarded a penalty in the 45 + 3 ‘minute after Billy Gilmour fouls Gabriel Jesus in the forbidden box.

Sergio Aguero then advanced as executor. However, the ball from his harvest-style penalty kick was successfully tamed by Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

“I would like to apologize to all my teammates, coaching staff, and supporters for thwarting chances through penalty kicks. It was a bad decision and I take full responsibility for it,” wrote Aguero on his Twitter account.

Of course, Sergio Aguero regrets this because Manchester City finally gave up 1-2 from Chelsea. In the second half, Chelsea scored two goals through Hakim Ziyech (63 ‘) and Marcos Alonso (90 + 2’).

This defeat did not change Manchester City’s position at the top of the standings with 80 points. However, The Citizens were forced to postpone the 2020/2021 Premier League title celebrations.
