Thomas Tuchel’s Sweet Revenge in the Champions League

Thomas Tuchel managed to avenge his defeat in last season’s Champions League final. The German manager has now successfully won with Chelsea.
Chelsea was crowned champion of the 2020/2021 Champions League at the Do Dragao Stadium, Sunday (30/5/2021) in the morning WIB. The Blues won 1-0 over other England representatives, Manchester City, in the final party.

This achievement is the second time for Chelsea to win the Champions League title. Previously, the London club won the European title in 2012

The title of the Champions League this time is the first achieved by the manager of Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel. Previously, the German tactician was only able to collect a silver medal when he handled the French team, Paris Saint-Germain.

They failed to bring PSG to become European champions in the 2019/2020 season because he lost to the Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich. Les Parisiens at that time collapsed with a thin score of 0-1.

Tuchel was kicked from the Parc des Princes at the end of 2020. The 47-year-old then accepted Chelsea’s proposal in early 2021, replacing Frank Lampard who was sacked by the Blues.

During five months of coaching Chelsea, Tuchel was able to boost his team’s performance in the Premier League and was able to finish in the top four. At the end of the 2020/2021 season, he successfully presented the Champions League title to Stamford Bridge.

Thomas Tuchel is listed as the third German coach to win his team to the Champions League in the last three years. He matched the achievements of Juergen Klopp at Liverpool (2019) and Hansi Flick with Bayern Munich (2020).

The Champions League still belongs to the German coach, Tuchel’s turn

Chelsea’s success in winning the Champions League reinforces the dominance of the German coach. Thomas Tuchel followed two of his compatriots.
In the final match which was held at the Estadio Do Dragao, Sunday (30/5/2021) early morning WIB, Chelsea faced City. With more pressure, Chelsea was able to open up the advantage in the 42nd minute through Kai Havertz.

After that, Chelsea maintained the score comfortably until the end of the match and was entitled to win the Champions League for the second time in history

Before this Chelsea had done it in 2012 when they beat Bayern Munich. The win was also a relief for the manager Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel was able to pay off last season’s failure when Paris Saint-Germain lost to Bayern Munich with a score of 0-1. At least Tuchel can catch up with some of the top managers/coaches from Germany who have held the Big Ear trophy.

Before Tuchel, there were Otmar Hitzfeld, Jupp Heynckes, Juergen Klopp, and Hansi Flick who did it in the Champions League era.

The German coaches also proved that they were still performing at this event, after the last two years they had always mastered the title. Klopp did it in 2019 followed by Flick last season.

As quoted by Opta, Germany is the second country after England to be able to send three different managers to win the Champions League / Cup in a row. The British did so in 1980-1982 on behalf of Brian Clough, Bob Paisley, and Tony Barton.

“It’s great to be able to share with others. We can do it. Wow, I don’t know what to feel,” Tuchel told BT Sports.

“I am very grateful to be able to qualify for the final again. I feel different now. We feel closer to the title … You can feel that” continued Thomas Tuchel .
