Indonesia’s mainstay men’s doubles, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon, failed to close the group stage match of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with a win. The Minions were defeated by Chinese Taipei doubles, Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin in the rubber game drama 18-21, 21-15, 17-21 at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Tokyo, Tuesday (27/7/2021).
Men’s doubles coach Herry Iman Pierngadi, responded to the defeat. The coach, nicknamed Coach Naga, said that Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon’s defeat was due to the opponent’s playing pattern.
“There is no surprise (with Lee/Wang’s game) because everything has been prepared. I just saw that Kevin/Marcus’s game was carried away by the opponent’s pattern. Play at length like that,” said Herry IP to the PR and Media Team of PP PBSI, through a release received by Bola.com.
Many made their own mistakes,” he added.
Still, according to Herry, the defeat of Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon is nothing to worry about.
“I’m not worried, tomorrow there will be time for evaluation and practice again before going to the quarter-finals,” added Herry.
Ahsan / Hendra Can’t Compete
Herry also revealed the condition of Mohammad Ahsan / Hendra Setiawan after successfully sweeping the victory in the group phase.
Indeed, in terms of the pattern of the game, we have changed a little,” said Herry.
So, the combination is played with slowness, the accuracy of hitting, not going fast. And it’s been successful so far,” explained Herry.
The men’s doubles quarter-final match will begin on Thursday (29/7/2021) with the draw taking place tonight.
